Who Should Attend & Entry Requirements
This course is aimed at individuals responsible for maintaining and inspecting electrical equipment, including electricians, maintenance staff, and those looking to enhance their qualifications in the electrotechnical field.
- No formal entry requirements; however, candidates should have a basic understanding of electrical systems and the associated risks.
- Suitable for individuals holding ECS cards, JIB electrician grade cards, or those with prior electrical qualifications or experience.
Course Content
The course focuses on the practical and theoretical aspects of PAT Testing and includes:
- Understanding the IET Code of Practice for In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment.
- Relevant statutory and non-statutory requirements, including the Health and Safety at Work Act and Electricity at Work Regulations.
- Equipment construction classes and protection methods.
- Procedures for inspecting and testing electrical equipment.
- Risk assessments and testing frequencies.
- Practical use of testing instruments and recording results.
- Completing inspection documentation and labels.
Assessment
- Online Knowledge Test (Unit 701): 50 multiple-choice questions, open-book, with a pass mark of 80%. Duration: 1 hour 45 minutes.
- Practical Assignment (Unit 702): Hands-on testing of Class I, Class II, and Class II FE equipment, including proper documentation.
Further Progression
Upon completion, learners can:
- Carry out in-service inspection and testing duties as per industry standards.
- Progress to higher qualifications such as the City & Guilds 2391-52 (Inspection and Testing) or other advanced electrical certifications.
