Course Overview

Level 3 Award in the In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment from EAL (600/4340/4)/ C&G (2377) commonly referred to as PAT Testing gives learners an understanding of the theory and practice of the in-service inspection and testing of electrical equipment. This qualification is for those who wish to carry out formal visual inspections, and inspections and tests of electrical equipment or electricians who wish to enhance their knowledge and skills and those who wish to pursue a career in the electrotechnical / building services sector.

Course Content

This is a 1-day classroom-based course that covers the skills and knowledge required to carry out the in-service inspection and testing of electrical equipment. This Award has one unit which covers: statutory and non-statutory requirements, electrical units, equipment construction, inspection and testing theory, practical inspection and testing of equipment and completion of documentation. In detail, the following topics are covered:

1. Electrical Safety

2. Regulation’s role and responsibilities

3. Insulation and earthing

4. Classification of appliances

5. Preliminary inspection, test precautions

6. Using a Portable Appliance Tester

7. Essential tests

8. Optional tests

9. Labelling tests

10. Reporting and recording results

11. Implementing a test programme

12. Practical Assessment

Followed by numerous practice questions to boost confidence and get the students to familiarise themselves with the exam methodology.

City & Guilds (2377-77) 

Theory Assessments (Online, Multiple Choice)

Online Open-book multiple-choice exam: 50 Questions - 100 Minutes Duration, minPass marks set to approximately 80%.

Practical Assessments

Task 1 Inspect and Test an Item of Class I equipment.
Task 2

Inspect and Test an item of Class II equipment.

Task 3 Complete appropriate documentation.

EAL (4340)

Theory Assessments (Online, Multiple Choice) Online Open-book multiple-choice exam: 40 Questions - 80 Minutes Duration, min. Pass marks set to approximately 60%.
Practical Assessments
Task 1 Inspect and Test an Item of Class I  & Class IIequipment 
Task 2

Complete appropriate documentation.

Entry Requirement

There are no formal requirements to enrol for the course. Still, we insist the students should have a keen interest in electrical technology and should be able to understand and communicate in English.
