This award covers the covers the full content of BS 5839-1:2017, Fire detection and fire alarm systems for buildings. Part 1 covers the Code of practice for design, installation, commissioning and maintenance of systems in non-domestic premises.
This qualification is regulated at level three, and is supported by the Fire and Security Association (FSA), and the Independent Fire Engineering & Distributors Association (IFEDA)

Course Content

This course will cover the following units:

1. Understand the general requirements of BS 5839-1.

2. Understand the design considerations for fire detection and fire alarm systems for buildings.

3. Understand the requirements in relation to the responsibility for the limitation of false alarms and unwanted fire alarm signals.

4. Understand requirements of BS 5839-1 in relation to the installation of fire detection and fire alarm systems.

5. Understand the requirements of BS 5839-1 in relation to the commissioning and handover of fire detection and fire alarm systems.

6. Understand the requirements of BS 5839-1 in relation to the maintenance of fire detection and fire alarm systems.

7. Understand the requirements of BS 5839-1 in relation to the user’s responsibilities of fire detection and fire alarm systems.

8. Understand the information contained within the annexes of BS 5839-1.

Assessment

Theory Assessments (Online, Multiple Choice)

The EAL test, a 100 minutes multiple-choice, online examination. The exam is open book, meaning that you will be able to refer to the BS 5839-1:2017 book during the exam process.

Duration

3 Day Classroom Based.

Entry Requirement

There are no formal entry requirements for learners undertaking this qualification. However, centres must ensure that learners have the potential and opportunity to successfully gain the qualification.

It is expected that learners will have basic knowledge of electrical science.
