Course Overview

This distance learning course will teach you how to inspect and test electrical installations in accordance with BS 7671:2018 + A2:2022. The course is designed for electricians and other professionals who need to be able to inspect and test electrical installations safely and effectively.

The course is delivered through a combination of online learning materials, tutor-led support, and practical assessments. You will be able to study at your own pace and in your own time, and you will have access to a tutor who can provide you with support and guidance throughout the course.

Course Content

The course will cover the specific methods of inspecting and testing electrical installations of all types, including single-phase and three-phase, to the latest requirements of BS 7671. It will also cover the inspection and testing techniques as given in IET Guidance Note 3, and how to professionally complete electrical certification and reports.

This course will cover the following units:

✓ Completing the safe isolation of electric circuits and installations

✓ Requirements for Initial Verification and Periodic Inspection of electrical installations

✓ Requirements for Inspection, Testing and Recording the condition of electrical installations

✓ Completing the Inspection of electrical installations prior to their being placed into service

✓ Safe testing and commissioning of electrical installations

✓ Requirements for Testing energised installations

✓ Completion of electrical installation certificates, Reports and associated documentation

✓ Safety of system and equipment prior to completion of Inspection and Testing

✓ Carry out Inspection of electrical installations

✓ Test electrical Installations in the service

✓ Produce a condition report with recoded observations and classifications.

Theory Assessments (Online, Multiple Choice)

The test is a 2-hour multiple-choice, online examination. The exam is open book, meaning that you will be able to refer to the 18th Edition wiring regulations, GN-3 and Onsite Guide books during the exam process. Pass marks set to approximately 75%.

Task 1 Visual Inspection (30 Minutes)
Task 2

Combined Initial Verification and Periodic Inspection of Electrical Installation.

Testing (2 Hours and 30 Minutes).

Task 3 Short Answer Questions (1 Hour 20 Minutes).

Entry Requirement

This course is for experience electrician only as CPD, we recommend that you have a good understanding of the latest IET BS7671 Wiring Regulations and have passed the 18th Edition course. We also recommend that you have a good experience of Installing, Inspecting and testing. It is required to have Level 3 Electrotechnical qualification completed prior to joining this course.
