Course Overview

The Experienced Worker Assessment (EWA) is a qualification for electricians who have been working in the industry for at least 5 years, but have not completed an industry apprenticeship or equivalent Level 3 NVQ qualification. The EWA is designed to assess your skills and knowledge in electrical installation, and to help you progress your career.

This qualification is not suitable for new entrants to the electrotechnical industry, apprentices, or other operatives who require any training, or those who have completed an electrotechnical technical certificate with less than five years’ relevant industry experience. 

Performance units 

There are six Level 3 Performance Units to be assessed before you can gain the Experienced Worker qualification:   

  1. Apply Health, Safety and Environmental Considerations 
  2. Organize and Oversee the Electrical Work Environment 
  3. Apply Design and Installation Practices and Procedures 
  4. Terminate and Connect Conductors 
  5. Inspect, Test and Commission Electrical Systems 
  6. Apply Fault Diagnosis and Rectification 

Eligibility to apply for the ECS gold card

The learner must have achieved:

  1. This qualification: City & Guilds Level 3 Electrotechnical Experienced Worker Qualification
  2. A current industry recognized Level 3 Award in the requirements for electrical installations (BS 7671- 18th Edition)
  3. An industry recognized Level 3 Award in the Initial Verification and Certification of Electrical Installations (which may be achieved as part of a combined Award with periodic inspection and testing) (2391)
  4. The AM2E Occupational Test (from NET) 

Eligiblility for the EWA

You must meet the following criteria:
  • You must have at least 5 years of experience working as an electrician.
  • You must have at least minimum Level 2 qualification.
  • You must not have completed an industry apprenticeship or equivalent Level 3 NVQ qualification.
  • You must be able to demonstrate knowledge, understanding, and competence to the standard of the Level 3 electrotechnical apprenticeship.

If you successfully complete the EWA, you will be awarded a City & Guilds Level 3 Electrotechnical Experienced Worker Qualification. This qualification will demonstrate your skills and knowledge to employers, and will help you progress your career.

Duration

Assuming you have completed 18th edition and level 3 Inspection and testing qualifications prior to joining this course, performance units assessments and portfolio shall be completed within 3-12 months.
